More than 10 years of exploring, tasting, and searching for the best coffee in the world led us to Central America, where we marveled at the amazing and diverse beans these countries are producing. So, of course, we also have in our offer list some truly outstanding coffee from El Salvador and Honduras.

These  two neighboring countries have a great deal to offer and very promising coffees, even though they have faced some challenges this year, so we decided to give you a taste of them. (Maybe we will include more places in the future?).

Coffee from El Salvador

Despite being one of Central America’s smallest countries, El Salvador’s potential is immeasurable, which is why coffee production plays a huge role in its economy.

The most popular cultivars are Bourbon, Catuai, Pacamara, and a few other rare exotics, which result in a range of flavors that focus on red berries, plum, stone fruit, florals, dried fruits, cocoa, and hazelnuts.

Now we are offering coffees from the Santa Ana region, originating from the Jasal group – Las Cruces, a family business. This is a project with an Salvadorian producer, Jose Antonio Salaverria and his two sons Andres and Jose Antonio.

Their success can be attributed to their passion for coffee. They have also built an excellent team, as Jose Antonio says his staff is his most important asset.

The list we have at your disposal is great, and we will have a few more options in August.

Coffee from Honduras

It is amazing to read more about Honduras, because everything about this country is fascinating.

Let’s start by saying that Honduras is currently the largest coffee producer in Central America. Here you can find primarily  Bourbon, Catuai, Pacamara Catuai,  and Lempira. They feature flavors arranging red berries, plum, cacao, blackberry, florals and citrus fruits, which often have more complexity, depth and richness than other Central American coffees.

In this country, we are proud to say that we have two big relationships:

Caballeros

The Caballeros family is conformed by Marysabel Caballero and her husband, Moises Herrera with whom we have been working since 2012, but have known since 2000, so when we talk about their coffee, we can speak with confidence.

The couple has shown us to be an amazingly kind and hardworking family. They own their own dry mill and export their coffee directly. Now, we carry a wide variety of coffees from their farms.

Intibuca project

Many specialty coffee buyers in Honduras are focused in and around the department of Santa Barbara, but we wanted to expand our offering, and decided to look at other regions to see what potential we could find. Intibuca stood out from all.

In this project, we work with a partner in the Masaguara region of Intibuca where we have discovered exceptional coffee produced by small growers with an average production of 20 to 50 bags. It is all about learning and sharing knowledge among these producers, and they are making an enormous effort in reinvesting in their infrastructure such as wet mills and drying facilities.  There is a great deal of excitement around this development, as it allows for greater traceability and separation of high quality micro-lots. Farmers just need better access to specialty roasters.

Our goal is to find a market for their coffees, assist them in developing their quality and increasing their earnings.

The Caballeros and Intibuca have such amazing stories and tastes to share, therefore here is a list of their coffee. It is big, so take your time to look over it. You won’t regret it.

For avid readers, you can find more information of El Salvador, Honduras, and their coffee. Above all, if you are curious about other origins, check our full offer list.
